----------Last Call for Regular Membership!
Many of you have by now received the 2006 SAWUURA membership mailer. For those who haven't (or for those who have, but forgot to mail it!) this is your reminder: May is membership renewal month!
Please make sure to get your SAWUURA membership form and check into the mail. It is SO important that we have your support. I'm attaching a copy of the membership form to this email in case you need one. Churches, please be so kind as to print a few and tack them up on your bulletin boards! -- THANK YOU !
----------Annual Meeting & Potluck
On June 18th we'll have our annual SAWUURA Members meeting. This will be at Valley UU church, 6400 W. Del Rio St in Chandler. Directions may be found at http://www.vuu.org/cs/findus. We'll start with a potluck at 12:30 and the meeting will follow shortly after that. This meeting is for SAWUURA members, but if you are interested in SAWUURA but not yet a member, you are welcome to come by, join in the potluck, meet us, chat, and learn more. We aren't a very formal group!
Several SAWUURA board members will have reached the end of their term (2 years) this June, and so we'll be voting on new board member positions. We are actively encouraging anyone with even a little interest to check out this possibility! This is a GREAT way to be a part of something fun and worthwhile. Board members plan events and maintain SAWUURA. They provide the direction for its future. This is not a demanding job, but it can certainly be very rewarding and fun. Feel free to email or call for more information: info@sawuura.org or Scott at 480-829-0858. Or just come by the potluck/meeting and ask questions.
By the way - if you want to attend the annual meeting, feel free to attend the VUU church service beforehand, starting at 10:30 that morning. Service will be over around 11:30 - 11:45 and there is a coffee time right after it. The SAWUURA potluck and meeting is in the Religious Education Building, Room 1 (across the parking lot from the sanctuary). If you want to bring something to the potluck and would want to store it in a refrigerator during the service, or need to heat something up, just contact Scott at the number above to make arrangements.
----------No Memorial Day Campout !
We're sad to report there will not be a SAWUURA Memorial Weekend Family Camp this year. This is due to several factors, including a number of board members who cannot attend this year, and fire danger (it has been an exceptionally dry spring -- Tonto National Forest has already restricted the use of campfires and there is no rain in the forecast).
We WILL continue to have work/play weekends, and the Labor Day event should be as normal (Fall is not such a dry time of year at SAWUURA).
----------Work/Play weekends and SAWUURA's upcoming schedule
Speaking of work/play weekends - do you know what these really are? They are not 1 or 2 days of slave labor, but really they are a chance to be at SAWUURA without the hubbub of all the families. SAWUURA family camp weekends can have 50 or 60 people! If you like quiet camping, try out a work/play weekend! There are usually only from 3 to 6 people present. We pitch in on various projects to improve and maintain the property. Lately we've been cleaning and fixing up our "Winter cabin" and gluing together a new water pipeline from the windmill to the main camp kitchen. We also just 'hang out' and enjoy being at SAWUURA. There's nothing like it! Email info@sawuura.org if you are interested in coming to one. And just let us know if you need some camping gear or other help!
Here's the upcoming schedule:
May 20-21 Work/Play June 10-11 Work/Play June 18 Annual Member Meeting/Potluck at VUU June 24-25 Work/Play July 8-9 Work/Play July 16 Board Meeting July 22-23 Work/Play Aug 5-6 Work/Play Aug 20 Board Meeting Aug 26-27 Work/Play Sept 2-4 Labor Day Family Campout
