SAWUURA NEWSLETTER UPDATE
Work/Play Weekends for June, July, and August ’05

JOIN US AT THE HUNDRED ACRE WOOD!!

Members don't have to wait for Labor Day or Memorial Day, or another
planned event, to camp at SAWUURA.  A great time to go is when there is
a scheduled “Work/Play” weekend.  We have several of these lined up –
choose one and join us – it's fun!

The SAWUURA site, “The Hundred Acre Wood,” is largely maintained and
improved by the volunteer labor of SAWUURA members and friends.  On
work/play weekends we work together on improvement and maintenance
projects in a spirit of fun and fellowship.  All work and no play. . . .
If you would like more information about the program or a specific
weekend , contact Joe Stefani at jstef48@earthlink.net (520-743-3978). A
more complete description of the program can be found at “events” at
www.SAWUURA.org.

Dates and Projects:
(All dates here are Sat. and Sun. although some participants arrive on
Friday and stay beyond Sunday.)

June 25-26:  On Sat. (25th) Gene Rowley, Eb Eberlein, Joe Stefani, and
Scott Henderson will be on site to evaluate and work on the well.
Hopefully, a well consultant and contractor will be meeting us there to
lend some expertise. Beyond that we might, if there is time or we can’t
make progress on the well, work on the various Winter Cabin projects:
applying more flashing material to prevent rodent damage, beginning to
strip the contaminated insulation from the loft, and, perhaps, working
on the front stairs, which are not only deteriorating but also providing
an access route for rodents.

Remember:  Until the well is fixed, SAWUURA must be regarded as a dry
camp.  Bring your own water. Fire restrictions: no fire of any kind
(including propane and gas lanterns) except for cook stoves set up in
the kitchen area.  All SAWUURA fire guidelines and restrictions are
superceded by Forest Service restrictions and closures.

July 2-3: Very Tentative.  If having someone on site might move along
the well project, Eb  Eberlein and Joe Stefani might be able to make it
on this weekend.

July 9-10; July 23-24; August 13-14:  Unless there is more work to be
done on the well and water supply, these three weekends will be devoted
to cleaning up and repairing the Winter Cabin and continuing with Ladder
Fuel reduction along our road and at the campsites.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
FOR THESE WEEKENDS!!  A solid push can bring the Winter Cabin much
closer to habitability for next winter.  So far, Joe Stefani is planning
to be there on the July 23-24, August 13-14 dates.

August 27-28: As this is the weekend prior to the Labor Day Gathering
(September 3-5), we’ll be doing routine maintenance for that event as
our first priority, with work on our other ongoing projects as time
allows.

Hope you'll join us!

Joe, Karen, Tom, and Scott
